HELPED by lower interest rates and a spate of new model launches, passenger car sales jumped by 31.2 per cent in October 2004.
A total of 73,770 units were sold in October over 56,222 units last October, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers (SIAM).
Maruti Udyog sold 33.7 per cent more vehicles at 37,544 units, while its nearest rival Hyundai Motor India posted a 17 per cent rise in sales at 13,239 units. Tata Motors registered a jump of 40.5 per cent at 13,332 units.
However, the increase in sales in October was only marginal at 4.6 per cent when compared to September 2004 sales of 70,492 units. Part of this is attributed to the late onset of the festive season this year and also with shradh being in October.
Meanwhile, two-wheeler sales went up by 6.71 per cent to 591,002 units in October.
In the commercial vehicles category, sales in the medium and heavy segment grew 23 per cent to 16,006 units, while that of light commercial vehicles were up by 21.1 per cent at 26,658 units.
