World Diabetes Day

KOTTAYAM: There are over 40 million diabetes patients in the country and the disease is fast spreading. By 2025, the figure might be 60 million. Of the diabetic patients in the world, one in every five will be an Indian then. To create awarenesson this alarming situation, World Diabetes Day is observed November 14.
In Kottayam, the day will be observed under the auspices of All Kerala Diabetic Club in association with Novo Nordisk. There will be awareness programmes, doctor-patient interactive sessions, exhibitions, diabetic detection camp, obesity detection camp, retinopathy camp etc, said Dr Chemmanam Varghese and Mr O.G. Tharakan.
The Chief Minister Mr. Oomman Chandy will inaugurate the programmes at 10 am on 14 November at S.H.Medical Centre, Kottayam. Dr Chemmanam Varghese, Dr. Madhusudanan and Dr Jose Chacko will speak on different aspects of diabetes. Dr Chemmanam Varghese, Consultant Diabetologist, Medical Centre will chair the interactive session. Dr Eapen Abraham, Dr Abraham Oommen, Consultant Cardiologist, Apollo Hospital, Chennai, Dr Harilal V. Nambiar , Kovai Medical Centre, and Dr. Joseph Mani will answer questions from patients.
