UTV in pact with Netfix for Hindi movie DVDs

UTV has signed a deal with Netflix, an online DVD movie rental service with more than two million listed members.

US-based Netflix has placed an advance order for 5,000 DVDs of Swades (being co-produced and distributed overseas by UTV) and 1,000 DVDs each of Lakshya and Phir Milenge.

Swades releases worldwide on December 17. UTV Motion Pictures will release Swades overseas. This will be the widest simultaneous release for a Hindi Film ever.

Lakshya was the fourth biggest grosser at the Indian box-office in 2004 at Rs 24.45 crore. At the US box-office, Lakshya grossed $7,48,000.

This deal will give Netflix access to all titles that UTV Motion Pictures is distributing in North America, a press release said.
