Roadways `Vehicle fuel tanks not compatible with LPG' Our Bureau
Mangalore , Nov. 7 THE fuel tanks of vehicles are not compatible with LPG, according to Mr S.C. Maiti, Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives, Mangalore. Delivering a lecture on `Use of LPG in vehicles', organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that LPG cylinders being sold in the market are meant for domestic and industrial purposes. While these cylinders adhere to a particular standard, fuel tanks of vehicles have a separate standard altogether. "For using LPG in vehicles, it is mandatory to have fixed tanks in them. The user of replaceable LPG cylinders in vehicles may be penalised," he added. Auto LPG dispensing stations have been set up in Bangalore to cater to the needs of vehicle owners; nearly 25,000 autorickshaws with fixed tanks are using this facility, he said. Mr Maiti expressed happiness that the awareness regarding the use of LPG is high among the corporate sector. Citing the instances of disasters in some industrial units a few years ago, he said: "If you are not managing safety by objective, productivity will be affected."
