Bangalore , Nov. 3

WOCKHARDT Hospitals on Wednesday launched a patient rights initiative across its chain of hospitals.

The eight-point document released here by the Karnataka Lok Ayukta, Mr Justice N. Venkatachala, lists the rights of patients at the group hospitals in terms of medicare, treatment, information and billing.

The document will be given to all in-patients and out-patients to the hospitals. This is the first initiative of its kind, according to Mr Vishal Bali, VP (Operations), Wockhardt Hospitals.

Mr Justice Venkatachala said patient rights programmes are an integral part of the healthcare systems in many countries and instil confidence in consumers of healthcare services.

Apart from the heart hospital in Bangalore, the Wockhardt India chain has a hospital in Mumbai and a kidney centre and institute in Kolkata. In the next two years, Wockhardt plans to start three more superspeciality hospitals in Mumbai and one in Bangalore.
