Strife ends in Vandiperiyar Tea Estates

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Outstanding labour disputes that caused the closure of the Vandiperiyar Tea Estates under the Harrisons Malayalam management have been settled after conciliatory talks ended successfully.

Announcing this here, a spokesman said representatives of the estate management had met with trade union leaders in the conciliatory talks held in the presence of the Labour Minister, Mr Babu Divakaran, and the Labour Commissioner, Mr S. Sreenivasan.

As per the agreement at the meeting, each worker will get wage arrears of Rs 1,500 upfront. Among those suspended from service, those who do not have criminal charges filed against them will be reinstated, subject to receipt of response to the charge-sheet. A decision on other outstanding issues will be taken based on the report to be submitted by the Additional Labour Commissioner.
