Hyderabad , Nov. 1

ALLAYING the apprehensions of the global industrial and investment community that the industrial growth might now take a backseat with the changed priorities of the new Government in Andhra Pradesh towards agricultural economy, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has assured best of the infrastructure facilities to the industry as a `trusted partner of industry' for an accelerated industrial growth in the State.

The Chief Minister has also attempted to make it very clear to the industrial community that the `free power' to poor would in no way hamper the quality power supply requirements of the industry.

Addressing the three-day International Knowledge Millennium Conference (IKMC-2004) on `Building Bridge between Science & Industry' organised by the ICICI Knowledge Park here on Monday, Dr Reddy said, the Government was committed to provide "best of the infrastructure facilities, a very congenial atmosphere, industrial climate with quality power and all the needful logistical support."

"The Government will continue to play its role of a facilitator and a trusted partner of industry in eliminating the hurdles in the path of enterprise and innovation," Dr Reddy said.

Further, he said, "the AP Government is totally pro-industry. Especially, we consider the industrial segments such as biotechnology as very essential for us. We will do all the needful with regard to the State-based Universities supplying the required manpower to the industry."

Stressing on the focus of the State Government on agricultural economy, Dr Reddy said, "One of the key priorities of this Government is the promotion of the agriculture sector and our thrust will be to harness the tremendous potential that the application of biotechnology can bring to this sector."

As a part of this, the AP Government is promoting the country's first agri-biotech incubator in collaboration with ICRISAT at its campus. "The Government clearly recognises the importance of biotech in leading the State on a growth trajectory. The State will bring together leaders from across the world to create Biotechnological economy of tomorrow."

Highlighting the human resource strengths of the State in the areas of information technology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, the Chief Minister urged the industry to take advantage of this talent pool to development technologies appropriate for the country and world that would have a bearing on the welfare of the human race.
