TWO major organisations representing industries here have sought government intervention in appointing a new commissioner for the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation (CMC), a post that has been vacant even five months after the previous incumbent's transfer.
In their joint appeal, Mr J. Balu, President, Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia), and Mr C.R. Swaminathan, President, the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers' Association (SIEMA), expressed regret that the city has been suffering from serious infrastructure ills, including poor roads, lack of sanitation, shortage of drinking water and lighting.
They pointed out that Coimbatore has been ranked, outside the four metros, as one of the top 10 cities nationally, but the civic administration has not been providing the basic amenities to its citizens. They said "in the absence of Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation, no one is accountable."
