Plea to upgrade infrastructure at Baikampady Industrial Area

Our Bureau

Mangalore , Oct. 28

THE Kanara Small Industries Association (KSIA) is planning to submit a proposal to the State Government to upgrade the infrastructure at Baikampady Industrial Area in Mangalore.

It is also seeking the implementation of an engineering cluster development programme at Baikampady.

The KSIA President, Mr K. Jayaraj Pai, told Business Line here that the association is planning to submit a Rs 9.5-crore project proposal to the Government to upgrade the infrastructure in the industrial area.

In the first phase, the association will seek the concreting of major roads.

Mr Pai, who led a KSIA delegation to China recently, said that most of the industrial areas there have concrete roads.

He said Bangalore is overloaded with industries, and entrepreneurs are looking at other regions to set up their units. Upgrading infrastructure will help in attracting more entrepreneurs to the region, he said.

The industrial area earns Rs 25 crore per annum through exports, and upgrading of infrastructure will help earn more.

The association will submit a proposal to the Government seeking its approval for the implementation of an "engineering cluster development programme" at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.

Of the nearly 200 small-scale industrial units at Baikampady, more than 130 are engineering units, and the implementation of a cluster development programme will help these units, he added.
