Kochi , Oct. 28

THE Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode will be holding its operations management seminar, OPUS 2004, on October 31.

The theme of this year's seminar is `Operations Excellence in Indian Industry' focusing on supply chain management, Six-Sigma, logistics and distribution management, lean manufacturing and total quality management, a press release from the institute said.

With the advent of globalisation, Indian companies are facing new challenges and higher levels of competition in the market place, not only from the other local players but also from multinationals.

To retain existing market share and to grow in such a competitive business environment, the companies will necessarily have to respond to the urgent needs for improving the quality of product, competitive pricing and ensure quicker response to change.

In such a situation there is more scope for implementation of integrated supply chain management, logistics and distribution management, and focus has shifted to new quality methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and TQM.

The seminar will have eminent speakers from the industry discussing a variety of topics with focus on issues like Logistics and Distribution Management in India - impact of transportation infrastructure, synergy between supply chain management and logistics management.

OPUS `04 will feature a series of presentations from diverse leaders across the country. Eminent persons from the Indian industry are expected to participate in the seminar.

The seminar will culminate with a debate session on the theme "Operational Excellence through Supply Chain Management, a Hype or Reality?" The Sponsor for OPUS'04 is Cochin Shipyard Ltd and CII Institute of Logistics is the Knowledge Partner.
