THE Union Steel Ministry has sought more time to finalise the integrated National Steel Policy, the draft of which was earlier expected to be ready by October. It has sought clarifications from the steel industry on a number of points, according to Ministry sources.
According to the sources, steps have also been taken to strengthen the grievance cell within the Ministry, a move, which is expected to be of help to steel users. While stating this, Steel Ministry sources addedthat as of now, there had been little or no movement for the Steel Minister, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan's earlier proposal to set up a steel prices regulatory body at a national level.
In June, Mr Paswan had expressed an interest in setting up the commission to bring about stability in steel prices and protect the interest of domestic customers. He had, however, said that the views of the primary steel manufacturers would be ascertained before any decision was taken.
