Paddy field under rain water in Ramanathapuram dist

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: Over 50,000 acres of paddy fields in the Ramanathapuram district have been submerged in water, following heavy downpour. The district received a maximum of 177.5 mm rain on Tuesday.

According to the Joint Director of the Agricultural Department, Mr D. Jayachandran, more than 165 small and big tanks, including 30 public-works department controlled tanks, are nearing themaximum-level. As most of the crops are in early stages, the overflowing rainwater will not affect the standing paddy crops. However, instructions have been given to monitor the situation.
