Tax audit returns: ICAI wants date extended

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Oct. 20

THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has suggested to the Finance Ministry that the last date for filing of income-tax returns on tax audit cases be extended.

The Income-Tax Department has specified October 31 as the last date for filing of tax returns by those assesses whose books of accounts are to be compulsorily audited for income-tax purposes.

Informed sources said that the Institute has highlighted the upcoming holidays during the current festive season, and the need for chartered accountants to register as e-intermediaries with the tax department as some of the reasons as to why the last date for filing of tax audit returns should be extended.
