Truck, bus tyre output slips in Aug

TRUCK and bus tyre production slipped in August 2004 to 8.91 lakh units, against 9.53 lakh units recorded in July 2004.
Production of truck and bus tyres stood at 9.00 lakh units in August 2003. Truck and bus tyres segment accounted for over 70 per cent of the turnover (in value terms) of the domestic tyre industry.
Truck and bus tyre exports too slipped in August 2004 to 1.84 lakh units, against 2.20 lakh units in July 2004. The domestic tyre industry exported 2.05 lakh units of truck and bus tyres during August 2003.
According to the automotive tyre manufacturers' association (ATMA), passenger car tyre production by ATMA member companies during August 2004 stood at 9.80 lakh units, against 8.13 lakh tyres in the same month last year. Passenger car tyre production during July 2004 stood at 10.09 lakh units.
Production of light commercial vehicle tyres stood at 3.18 lakh tyres during August 2004, against 3.40 lakh units in the previous month.
