Education SPJIMR ties up with Virginia Tech to offer IT Master's degree in Mumbai Our Bureau
Mumbai , Oct. 15 THE S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) here and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University of the US have come together to offer a one-and-a-half-year "contact-cum-offline" programme titled `SPJIMR-VT MIT,' which is geared to implementing and managing IT solutions projects. The programme leads to a Master's Degree in Information Technology from Virginia Tech, and SPJIMR. According to an official statement, the course will be offered in two tracks: One for professionals working on IT projects and the other for graduates with engineering or Maths subjects, having a specialist diploma in IT solutions. The professional participants come to campus in four contacts of three-weeks' duration each, wherein, 15 courses (45 credits) are taught. Ten of these courses are taught by the faculty from Virginia Tech and five by the faculty from SPJIMR. The on-campus students join the class of professionals during contact phases. In between contacts, the professionals carry out exercises and assignments in their respective companies, while the on-campus students carry out exercises in institute labs and project assignments with select IT industry partners. The statement quoting Dr M.L. Shrikant, Dean, SPJIMR, said, "This programme comprises application-based project assignments localised to address the specific needs of the Indian industry." Dr Richard Sorenson, Dean, Virginia Tech, USA, said: "The programme is designed to groom professionals in "user organisations" from functional areas to develop into IT executives/internal consultants in managing IT interventions."
