Coimbatore zone service tax target at Rs 523 crore

THE service tax targeted from Coimbatore Central Excise zone for 2004-05 is put at Rs 523 crore.

Against this, the tax collected up to August 2004 is Rs 103 crore, which is 40 per cent higher than the tax collected for the corresponding period of previous year, according to the Chief Commissioner, Central Excise, Coimbatore zone, Mr J.M.K. Sekhar.

During 2003-04, the service tax collected in the entire zone comprising Coimbatore, Salem, Trichy, Tirunelveli and Madurai Excise Commissionerates was Rs 221 crore.
