GM sales rise 60 pc in Sept

SELLING a record 3,207 cars in September, the highest in a month since its inception, General Motors India recorded over 68.5 per cent growth in the first nine months of 2004.

The company's sales increased by 60.27 per cent in September over 2,001 cars sold in the same month last year. It sold 1,062 units of Chevrolet Optra, 1,370 units of Chevrolet Tavera, and 768 units of Opel Corsa last month.

In the first three quarters of 2004, the company sold 18,517 cars as against 10,987 in the same period last year. These included 7,344 Optras, 6,932 Opel Corsas and 4,072 units of the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) Chevrolet Tavera.

" Enthused by its grand success in the Indian market, GM plans to bring some more Chevrolet products specifically designed for India.," said Mr P. Balendran, Vice-President (Corporate Affairs), GMI.
