Letters Consultative panels
This is with reference to "Baby with bathwater" (Business Line, October 5). The decision of the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, to dismantle the Consultative Committees is egocentric. The criticism was not for constituting Consultative Panel to conduct Mid-term Appraisal of the Tenth Plan, but for having included representatives of foreign donor agencies in such Committees. To exclude the foreigners from the Committees itself would have been enough to put an end to the issue. It seems that Dr Ahluwalia has, perhaps, wished to show off his power to constitute the panel according to his wish or otherwise destroy them.
It is imperative that the Prime Minister, who is the chairman of the Planning Commission, and other Ministers in the Commission take steps to reconstitute the Consultative Committees. C.
