Nabard staff strike today

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All officers and other employees of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) will go on a countrywide strike on Tuesday, a notice for which was issued on September 20.

Nabard Officers Association and the All-India Nabard Employees Association will spearhead the strike, according to Mr A.S.S. Nampoothiri and Mr Jose T. Abraham, employee leaders.

It is being mounted to protest alleged moves behind the curtain to dislodge the apex agri-credit bank from the top position at a time when the Centre vouches by its professed aim of `doubling of agricultural credit'.

The strike also aims to protest attempts to reverse the existing parity in pay scales and service conditions among officers of Nabard and the RBI.

The employees of Nabard are agitated over the denial of special compensatory allowance, non-revision of pension and denial of compassionate appointment.
