Rural Development Kerala: Rural Development Week from Oct 2 Aravindan
Kottayam , Sept. 30 THE State Government will observe Rural Development Week throughout the State from October 2 to October 8 under the auspices of the Rural Development Department. The Department will lay emphasis on poverty eradication, labour oriented activities, house construction and cleanliness under the supervision of concerned three-tier panchayats, Mr C.F. Thomas, Minister for Rural Development, told presspersons here. Panchayat president, Collector, DRDA project officer and Assistant Development Commissioner will be in charge of the development activities in each district. Scheduled cast and scheduled tribe development departments will observe the period as solidarity week. The Government will also implement welfare measures for scheduled casts and scheduled tribes during the period , the Minister said. Each day of the rural development week is intended to be set apart for separate development programmes. On October 2, priority is given for cleaning activities, while October 3 is to be observed as women and children's welfare day. To create an awareness among youth about the schemes of Central and State Government, various camps would be organised on October 4. The fourth day (October 5) is agriculture day which consists of seminars on various agriculture related topics. The fifth day (October 6) is to be observed as water conservation day. Basic amenities development day falls on October 7. October 8 will be observed as rural festival day, the Minister said.
