Chandigarh , Sept. 28

ELEVEN cotton markets have been developed in Haryana with the assistance of the Technology Mission on Cotton (TMC) of the Union Textile Ministry at a cost of Rs 21.91 crore.

An official spokesman of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) said that the TMC had sanctioned reimbursement of over Rs 11 crore spent on the improvement of eight existing cotton markets at Ellenabad, Sirsa, Dabwali, Hisar, Fatehabad, Kalanwali, Uchana, and Hansi and development of three new mandis at Narwana (Phase-II), Uklana, and Bhiwani.

The board had undertaken a programme to develop new grain and vegetable markets and provide additional facilities in the existing ones, he added.

It had also constructed godowns of 39,750 tonnes capacity at Chhachhrauli, Karnal, Jind, and Barwala in Hisar district, Uklana, Rohtak, Jeewan Nagar, and Panipat, thus raising the capacity to about 4.27 lakh tonnes.
