INDO-UAE non-oil trade witnessed a jump of 66.6 per cent to $7.14 billion in the 2003-2004 fiscal, with Indian exports to the UAE alone accounting for a 53 per cent rise to $5.08 billion, according to a senior Indian mission official.
Mr Yashwant Sinha, Dubai-based Indian Consul-General, told Business Line on Tuesday that the increase in trade between the two countries was due to a more proactive stand by Indian exporters and a significant push for exports from the UAE side as well.
Among Indian exports to the UAE that showed a big rise, were gems and jewellery, textiles, electronic goods, transport and equipment. Indian imports of UAE products, totalling $2.06 billion, included precious and semi-precious stones, gold, organic chemicals and goods. Mr Sinha said that the rise in trade is significant, as in the previous years exports and imports had registered increases only up to 11 per cent. Indian exports in 2002-2003 were $3.3 billion.
