THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The livestock sector in Kerala must be able to provide more employment and also generate more income, said Ms K.R. Gowri Amma, State Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. She was inaugurating a seminar on the livestock sector organised by the Kerala Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in the city on Monday.

Despite taking several measures to increase milk production, Kerala has still not been able to achieve much, she said. Similarly, the State has the potential to export meat products, but the industry has also not taken off yet, she added.

Topics discussed at the seminar included the problems and prospects of the animal husbandry sector in Kerala, modern trends in meat production and livestock development projects for farmers.
