Cotton SIMA engages agri varsity to study cotton seed market G. Gurumurthy
Coimbatore , Sept. 26 THE Southern India Mills Association's Cotton Development and Research Association (SIMA-CDRA) has entrusted a study on assessing the marketing of SIMA-CDRA-developed cotton seeds to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). The task has been given to the TNAU to formulate strategies for increasing the sale of SIMA seeds and the scope of the TNAU analysis would cover the buying behaviour of the farmers, problems in cotton seed retail marketing and also assess the market share of SIMA-CDRA cotton seeds, the SIMA-CDRA Chairman, Mr J. Thulasidharan, has told the members of the association. Addressing the 29th annual general meeting of the SIMA-CDRA held here , he said that of the 1,110 tonnes of certified cotton seeds distributed during 2003-04 as shown in the accounts of the Directorate of Seed Certification, the share from the SIMA-CDRA was 207 tonnes constituting 18.5 per cent. As compared with the various private seed companies, the CDRA's distributed seeds accounted for 24.25 per cent.
