Kochi , Sept. 22

TATA Group's newly launched `indiOne' budget hotel chain is planning to set up five hotels in Kerala in the next two-three years as part of its expansion plans, company officials have said.

The indiOne hotels are slated to come up at Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Guruvayoor, they said at the sidelines of a press conference here today.

"We are planning two hotels at Ernakulam and one each in the other places. We are currently looking for land acquisition at Kakkanadu (near here)," the officials said.

The hotel at Thiruvananthapuram is coming up at the Technopark, the State's premier software technology park.

"We are planning to have 60 rooms for the first hotel at Ernakulam, which can be scaled up to 150 rooms in future," they said.

The indiOne hotels have tariffs under Rs 1,000 per day and offers only basic services.

These hotels are being set up through a subsidiary - Roots Corporation - of the Indian Hotels Company Ltd, which runs the Taj group of luxury and business hotels.

Tatas are planning to open 150 indiOne hotels across the world. Meanwhile, in line with the growth of Kochi's businesses and industries, the Taj Residency business hotel is planning to go in for a major facelift starting next year.

A new tower with 150 rooms will also come up in the next three years, the officials said. As part of the Taj Business Celebrations' Series, the hotel today brought India's `only country music artist' Bobby Cash to perform at the Residency.
