Performance Tata Motors registers higher sales in South Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Sept. 20 TATA Motors Ltd has registered 29.7 per cent growth in passenger car sales in the first five months this fiscal, with the South contributing about 35 per cent of its overall sales volume across both petrol and diesel variants. The company registered 47 per cent growth in Andhra Pradesh alone and good volumes in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, mainly due to 68 per cent growth in Indigo sales. Following this and good numbers from Indica, the company has garnered about 17 per cent of the passenger car market share, up from 14.5 per cent last year. While Indigo sales accounted for about 37 per cent market share in the South, reflecting an increase of about 13 per cent, Indica sales were up by about 29 per cent, an increase of about 5 per cent. With the launch of the Indigo Marina, overall sales numbers could go up further. Announcing the out of the Indigo Marina late last week, the General Manager of Marketing, Mr S. Krishnan, told Business Line: "With the launch of Marina, we expect to push the petrol variants also in a significant way. Overall, about 25 per cent of the total sales came from petrol versions and this number is likely to be boosted with the corporate business segment likely to take to the Marina." He added: "Last year, Tata Motors accounted for about 14.5 per cent of overall sales in the passenger car segment. With the launch of the Indigo Marina and increased sales this year for the Indigo and the Indica, we expect to achieve about 18 per cent overall market share.."
