THERE is a real war for talent in the IT industry. But the biggest challenge in moving forward is not in terms of pay. It is in creating the right environment," Mr Rajani Kanth Katragadda, Associate Vice-President, Infosys Leadership Institute said.

Mr Katragadda was speaking at a CII meeting on `Human Capital - The Non Diminishing Asset - Making the Transition.'

If pay is comparable, what is it that is added to the market value of the individual? `Resume building' is emerging as the catchword, says the Associate V-P of Infosys.

According to him, the biggest constraint was not demand or capital, but "capability in execution" and this was not a market-driven constraint, but an internal one. "The set of skills that an individual acquired on the job through training and experience increased his value in the market place."

Reverting to Infosys's approach, he said that the company adopted a multi- pronged strategy, which started with selection. "Being a tech company, we divide capabilities into four areas — technology, domain, management and soft skills and leadership development."
