Information Technology 200 e-learning centres at krishi kendras on anvil Our Correspondent
Madurai , Sept 15 ABOUT 200 e-learning centres are to be set up inKrishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) across the country, according to Mr S. Prabhu Kumar of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Speaking at a seminar on advanced production technologies for sapota, amla and vegetables at Dindigul recently, he said the centres would give firsthand information on the market for farm produces, meteorological data, latest techniques in respective fields of activity, good agronomical practices and post-harvest preservation techniques. He further said that the Centre has sanctioned funds to set up KVKs in Namakkal, Karur and Dharmapuri districts in the State. Soil and water testing laboratories are to be set up in the kendras at an estimated cost of Rs12 lakh, he added. Earlier, the District Collector, Mr S. Murugaia, stressed on the need to shift to crops that consumed less water. Intercropping would help the farmers earn a supplementary income, he emphasised.
