THE Mumbai-based Welingkar Institute of Management inaugurated its Bangalore centre on Tuesday.
In the current academic year, the institute is offering a two-year PG Programme in eBiz and a Professional Programme in Retailing (PPR). Besides this, the institute's management development programme cell will conduct training programmes to the corporate sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Uday Salunkhe, Director, Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, said, "Though we have just a centre in Bangalore now, by 2007, we plan to have a full-fledged campus here like in Mumbai and another 10 centres across the country by 2015." A Delhi centre is in the offing next year, he added.
Talking about the eBiz programme, Dr Salunkhe said, it was very popular because it trained professionals from various streams in both technology and management.
Currently, 40 per cent of the students in this course have work experience of two or more years. "We want to increase this to 70 per cent gradually," said Dr Salunkhe.
The six-month PPR programme too is becoming extremely popular, said Dr Salunkhe. According to industry statistics, in one year, the retailing sector will need about 3,00,000 people in the frontline sales category. The PPR programme prepares retail staff in three aspects: store operations; retail selling skills and customer service and standards.
