Sept. 9
A string of issues related to human resource management (HRM), such as leadership and succession, training and development, compensation and e-learning, were discussed on the first day of the two-day annual business seminar organised by the students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) here on Thursday.
Speakers at the seminar were of the unanimous view that it had become imperative for HRM to respond to the on-going changes in the business world.
The tone for the discussion was set by Mr B.P. Biddappa, Head HR, Hindustan Lever Research Centre, who pointed out: "In today's organisational context of constant change and uncertainty, succession planning has emerged as one of the company's best defences against unexpected gaps in the talent pool of leaders ."
According to Mr Ram Kumar, General Manager (HR) ICICI, though e-learning as a concept, has started gaining importance in the industry today and some companies have successfully forayed into this area.
