Nabard releases Rs 5.19 cr for Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has released Rs 5.19 crore to the State Government, to be divided among 56 minor irrigation, 31 watershed and nine rural projects.

With this, the total loan released to the State during 2004-05 has gone up to Rs 11.85 crore, an official spokesman of the Regional Office, Nabard, Thiruvananthapuram, said.

The present release would enable the State Government to complete 56 minor irrigation projects spread among 10 districts resulting in additional irrigation to 4,733 hectares. Various soil and water conservation measures would become possible over an area of 13,694 hectares under the aegis of the watershed development project.

The funds allotted for road development would translate into a total road length of 21.35 km being laid in nine block panchayats, the spokesman added.
