Vimala Vasan

Abu Dhabi , Sept. 7

OVER 700 Indian workers are among1,700 employees of an Abu Dhabi-based contracting company who have been left jobless with months of unpaid wages after the expatriate Lebanese partner of the firm absconded in July.

The workers, who took up their case with the labour court here, have been assured by the UAE Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs that they can transfer their sponsorship if they are able to find other jobs in the UAE.

The Consular, Labour Affairs, at the Indian Embassy here told Business Line that efforts are under way to facilitate transfer of sponsorship for those Indian workers who can find other jobs.

The workers, who are languishing with unpaid salaries ranging from three to five months, are desperately looking for other employment avenues.
