New Delhi , Sept. 1 CNN International today indicated it was keen to increase its presence in the Indian market but had no immediate plans to launch an India-specific channel. "We are interested in extending our brand in the local market and are also open to the idea of an India-specific channel but as of now nothing is on the horizon," Mr Chris Cramer, Managing Director, CNN International, told reporters here. Asked whether CNN was interested in launching a news, sports or entertainment channel in India, Mr Cramer said, "Our core competence is in news and whenever we plan to start operations from India it will have something to do with news." He also announced the launch of an India-specific two-hour daily series called Eye on India, to be telecast on CNN between September 4-12, in association with Oberoi Hotels and Resorts. The channel would focus on the world's largest democracy and its rapidly changing role in the global political and business environment, and the programme will feature a combination of live and feature programming on India's various facets. Commenting on the association, Mr Vikram Oberoi, Deputy Managing Director, Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, said, "The partnership with CNN is a logical extension of our global marketing and brand strategy."
