Dumping probe on NBR imports from EU, Mexico, Brazil

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Aug. 30

DOMESTIC users of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), a synthetic rubber, may now be required to pay more for their import consignments from certain countries. The Designated Authority has initiated an anti-dumping probe on NBR imports from the European Union (except Germany), Mexico and Brazil.

Apar Industries Ltd, Mumbai, the sole producer of NBR in the country, had submitted the petition seeking anti-dumping investigation on imports of NBR from these countries. NBR finds wide application in defence, automobile, footwear, fabrics, printers, oil field products industries etc.

Informed sources said that the investigation would cover all grades of NBR in bale form only. The period of investigation for the purpose of this investigation is April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2004. The injury investigation period will however cover the period 2000-01 to 2002-03 and the period of investigation.

Meanwhile, based on the petition filed by National Organic Chemicals Industries Ltd, Mumbai, the Designated Authority has initiated anti-dumping duty investigations on certain rubber chemicals (MOR, PX-13 and TDQ) from the EU, the US, China and Chinese Taipei.

These rubber chemicals are extensively used in treating natural rubber, synthetic rubber and other synthetic rubber-based compounds used for manufacture of various rubber products.
