Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Southern Railway has brought out a comprehensive disaster management plan for the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division in order to deal with any emergency and also to facilitate relief and rescue work.

According to an official spokesman, hospitals and other emergency services located in the vicinity of various railway stations have been identified and listed with telephone numbers. Contact telephone numbers of Central, State and Defence and paramilitary agencies have also been listed in order to commandeer them for rescue and relief work.

Mock drills have been conducted in major railway stations to gauge the operational preparedness of Railway personnel and other agencies involved. The disaster management plan has since been submitted to the Railway Headquarters, according to sources.
