Hitachi Home targets Rs 170-cr turnover

Neha Kaushik

New Delhi , Aug. 23

HITACHI Home & Life Solutions India (HHLSI), which recently underwent financial restructuring to curb losses, is betting on growing sales of its air-conditioners to drive profits.

The company, which saw a loss of Rs 25 crore in the last fiscal, made an operating profit of Rs 6 crore in the first quarter of the year.

"We are seeing good domestic growth and our product range is targeted at both the residential and institutional market. We expect to sell about 100,000 units in the domestic market this fiscal and are targeting an overall turnover of Rs 170 crore. The air-conditioner market has seen good growth, and the industry should end with a growth of 15 per cent this year," Mr Rakesh Khanna, Senior Vice-President (Sales), HHLSI, said.

On the overseas front, the company has been exporting its air-conditioners to West Asia, the SAARC countries and Africa. "We have seen high demand in the overseas markets. We are planning to export over 30,000 ACs this year," Mr Khanna said.

Hitachi, meanwhile, will continue with its premium price positioning in the Indian market. "Our focus is more on profitability and long-run growth. Our products are targeted at a niche consumer," he said.

The company is also evaluating the introduction of refrigerators, colour televisions and other products from its global portfolio to India.
