Hyderabad , Aug 23

THE State Government has so far spent Rs 210 crore on making arrangements for the Krishna Pushkaram festival beginning on August 28. The arrangements are being finetuned at present, according to the Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Dr Reddy said that the Indian Railways had also spent Rs 11 crore on renovation of railway stations and would be pressing into service 360 additional trains to meet the travelling needs of the people. Additional bogies, equivalent to operation of 20 additional trains per day, would be attached to the existing trains in the State.

The State Minister for Endowments, Mr. M. Satyanarayana Rao, said that three crore people were expected to take a dip in the river during the period of pushkarams.

Briefing newspersons after review of the arrangements made for the event, the Chief Minister said that ample precautions would be taken to avoid traffic jams during the period.

Dr Reddy, who released audio and videocassettes brought out in connection with the event, was hopeful that there would be sufficient water in the entire river course in the State for the pilgrims to offer their pujas. "Even if Almatti (Almatti dam in Karanataka) don't release water, the Almighty will provide water", he said.
