Power Spread info on energy-efficient technology, says Kerala Chief Secy Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Aug. 20 EFFORTS need to be taken to provide members of the public with information on the techniques they can adopt to improve the efficiency of energy usage at home and work, and thus bring down overall energy consumption, said Mr Babu Jacob, Chief Secretary, Kerala. He emphasised that programmes to improve the efficiency of energy usage must be sustainable if they are to succeed. He made these observations while inaugurating a workshop on `green buildings' organised by the Thiruvananthapuram-based Energy Management Centre and the California-based Berkeley Lab. Organised with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Indian Green Building Council, the two-day workshop is targeted at architects, builders and Government officials working in organisations such as the Public Works Department. The inaugural session was followed by several presentations on various aspects of `green buildings'. Dr Kath Williams, Interim President, World Green Building Council made a presentation on `Green building: Concepts and developments', while Mr S. Padmanabhan, Senior Advisor, USAID spoke on energy efficiency in India. Others who addressed the gathering included Ms Lizzie Jacob, Principal Secretary-Power, Government of Kerala and Mr Parasuraman R., Chairman, Indian Green Building Council and Vice-Chairman, World Green Building Council.
