Madurai , Aug. 16

THE Madurai Circle of the Canara Bank, among the 13 circles in the country, has secured the second position, next only to Delhi, in the assistance to the small-scale industries (SSI) sector.

The circle, with 240 branches and spread over 12 districts, has sanctioned Rs 550 crore and the advances from the SSI cells in the branches alone stood at Rs 22 crore.

It has further secured the first position in farm credit and second position in the sanction of tractor loans, said the Deputy General Manager (DGM), Mr S.S. Baskaran, in a meet with the press on an `Awareness Programme on SSI loan schemes,' here.

Explaining the various schemes, the DGM made particular mention about the technology upgradation scheme (TUFS) and CCLS schemes to face the challenges in the post WTO era and loan scheme for acquisition of ISO Certification.
