Spot rubber rates slip further on low enquiries

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Aug. 16

SPOT rubber prices surrendered further on Monday. The absence of major manufacturers kept the activities in an extremely low profile. Though the arrivals continued to be narrow amidst widespread rains, the prices failed to firm up against expectations.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed at Rs 54.50 against Rs 55 on Saturday. ISNR 20 and latex were steady while the other grades lost on dull trading.

The futures market turned weak again on Monday. The near month September delivery was quoted at Rs 52.40 (52.75), October delivery at Rs 51.59 (52.17) and November delivery at Rs 51.45 (52.15) per kg for RSS 4.

At Bangkok, RSS 3 improved to Rs 58.33 from Rs 58.22 on Friday. The September futures for RSS 3 closed at 137.5 yen against 141.4 yen a kg at TOCOM.

The Monday spot market rates per kg were as follows: RSS 4 Rs 54.50 (55); RSS 5 Rs 52 (52.50); ungraded Rs 50.50 (51); ISNR 20 Rs 51 (51); latex 60 per cent Rs 38 (39).
