Hyderabad , Aug. 15 THE Andhra Pradesh Government would adopt a three-pronged strategy to promote overall development of the State, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has announced. Speaking at the 58th Independence Day ceremonial parade at Parade Grounds here on Sunday, he said for promoting the State's development, the Government would like to involve all sections of the society, particularly the backward and weaker sections. In the first phase of the proposed plan, the Government would give emphasis to agriculture, irrigation and rural development, while in the second the State would focus on information technology, biotechnology and industrial development. According to the Chief Minister, thrust would be given to welfare programmes for SC, ST, BC, minorities, women and physically challenged in the third phase. Elaborating the further on the initiatives being proposed, the Chief Minister said the State would strive to empower local bodies. As part of rural development, farmers would be encouraged to take up cattle rearing and traditional trades such as weaving. The Government was making efforts to distribute 30,000 `Artisan Credit Cards' with the help of some banks to help farmers and those involved in traditional trades, he said. The State has also decided to increase power generation and to provide uninterrupted power supply to all villages in the next three years. Efforts were on to give power to consumers at a reasonable price, he said.
