The Principal Secretary for Energy, Mr D.K. Panwar, said special schemes have been prepared to expedite this process by investing Rs 1,234 crore funded by the Rural Electrification Corporation of India (REC) during this fiscal year.

The State is a front-runner in framing and finalising the rural electrification schemes to provide much better services to the rural masses, he said.

Addressing a gathering after hoisting the National Flag at Vidyut Soudha here on Sunday, he said the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was fully committed and determined to strengthen and stabilise the power sector by improving the installed capacity, transmission and distribution network.

The State Government was determined to provide free electricity to the agriculture sector in particular, Mr Panwar added.
