Software India must tap scope of animation: Karnik Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 13 DESPITE India having strong entertainment and IT sectors, allied sectors such as animation and gaming have progressed little and need much support from the Government and the industry to go global, according to Mr Kiran Karnik, President, the National Association of Software and Services Companies. Speaking at the FICCI `Frames Knowledge' series seminar on `Career opportunities in animation and gaming' on Friday, he said: "Considering the large pool of talent and the growing market of TV and other visual entertainment in India, it is disappointing that India has succeeded little in developing high-value items." "The emerging opportunity for high-value products are enormous in terms of domain specialisation and simulation, but creative talent and skills are insufficient to meet the demand that exists now," he said. On the challenges that India faces in the global animation market, he said that transforming the country into a credible base for high-quality animated products with quick delivery would change India's position. Mr Karnik called for Government intervention by way of providing adequate support and incentives such as direct subsidy and announcing policies that can enhance the sector's competitiveness.
