Software Infosys seeks 300 acres for new Bangalore campus Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug. 10 SOFTWARE major Infosys Technologies is planning a new campus in Bangalore for which it has sought 300 acres from the Karnataka Government, according to the company CEO and Managing Director, Mr Nandan Nilekani . Mr Nilekani was speaking to reporters here on Tuesday after a meeting between the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr Dharam Singh, and IT industry leaders to discuss the infrastructure problems of Bangalore. "We have asked the Government for 300 acres for our new campus in the city. We hope the Government would expedite clearance of land. We are adding 8,000 to 10,000 people annually," he said. This is the second time that Infosys is seeking land from the Government for its expansion. Earlier, its attempts to acquire about 100 acres on the outskirts fell through because of legal impediments in land acquisition. However, Mr Nilekani also made it clear that if there was a delay in getting land for its current expansion, the company would not hesitate to look at other regions to set up its operations. "We have to hire 8,000-10,000 people a year and find a place for them. If we can't find a place in Bangalore, we will put them up somewhere else. It is not that we are consciously saying we will go outside. The reality of the situation is that we have to go by the availability of land," he said. The company has also made applications for 50 acres in Mysore and 25 acres in Mangalore to expand its software development facilities, Mr Nilekani said. "The proposals are pending with the Government. Based on today's discussions, I am hopeful that all these proposals will be expeditiously taken care of,'' he said.
