Airlines SIA launches direct Amritsar-Singapore flight Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 5 SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) on Thursday announced the launch of a thrice-a-week direct flight between Amritsar and Singapore from October 1. In a statement, the airline has said that it will operate a Boeing 777-200 aircraft on the new route offering 323 seats, including 30 seats in business class. Approvals for commencing the direct services between Amritsar and Singapore have been obtained from the Indian authorities, including the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The new flight is to operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. On Wednesdays, the flight will leave Singapore at 2.45 p.m. and arrive in Amritsar at 6.00 p.m. After a one-and-half hour stop at Amritsar, the aircraft will resume its return journey at 7.30 p.m. and arrive in Singapore at 3.50 a.m. However, on Fridays and Sundays, the flight will leave Singapore at 4 p.m. and arrive in Amritsar at 7.15 p.m. The return journey will begin at 9 p.m. and the aircraft will reach Singapore at 5.20 a.m. Incidentally, this will be the second Indian city to which the airline will be launching a new flight during the year. On July 28, the airline started flights between Ahmedabad and Singapore. The launch of the new flight will see the airline offering 38 weekly flights from various Indian cities. Currently, SIA and its subsidiary, Silk Air, operate regular flights to nine Indian cities.
