GLOBAL NRI Foundation, an organisation that works for the welfare of non-resident Indians (NRIs), will establish a centre for NRI studies and services in Thiruvananthapuram. This facility will be inaugurated during the `Global NRI meet' to be held in the city from August 6 to 8, said Dr K.P. Rajappan Nair, Chairman of the NRI meet's organising committee.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Dr Nair said a major objective behind the establishment of the centre for NRIs is to create a support system for NRIs and their relatives in Kerala. This facility will help NRIs deal with the various problems they encounter, he said.
Besides, it will also commission research in various areas that are relevant to NRIs, he added. NRI remittances and their impact on Kerala, investment opportunities for NRIs and rehabilitation of NRIs are some areas that are likely to receive special attention.
The three-day NRI meet is expected to attract over 700 participants from across the world, Dr Nair said.
