Economic Offences Hi-tech solutions mooted to combat corruption Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 27 TO combat corruption is the bigger challenge among the Global Compact Society's (GCS) ten principles, said Mr Rajeev Ratan Shah, Member Secretary, Planning Commission. Addressing the National Convention on `Excellence in corporate citizenship and global compact' jointly organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Global Compact Society (GCS) here on Tuesday, he said new hi-technology solutions, through which citizens can directly contact Government offices to tap their services, will help in this regard. Elaborating on some of the success stories in this regard such as the e-seva model, he said that the nexus of corruption could be removed effectively by introducing more such interactive portals. Moreover, he said that the interactions between corporate and Government would be meaningful to get the downtrodden sections the benefits of development. Outlining the role of GCS, Mr Subir Raha, CMD, ONGC and President, GCS, said that the society would help business houses and NGOs to build a partnership with Government and this collaboration would act as a catalyst to support the UN's action. In his remarks Mr Herman van der Laan, Country Director, ILO, said that the impending impact of globalisation should not be losing jobs. In India, the corporate sector should collaborate with Government to find ways to reach the rural areas and thus take care of the unorganised and informal sector where globalisation has an impact on the job front.
