THE Andhra Pradesh Government will soon appoint a three-member committee to examine contractual appointments in the State.
The members of the committee will be drawn from the Centre for Good Governance, according to the State Revenue Minister, Mr D. Prasada Rao.
Replying on behalf of the Chief Minister to a debate in the Legislative Assembly on regularisation of temporary and contract employees in the Government service, Mr Rao said that as per the rules governing contract appointments, preferential treatment or right could not be extended to the persons engaged on contract basis.
The Minister, however, stated that based on the report of the proposed committee, the Government would make an assessment of manpower requirement for various posts in the Government so that the posts essentially required could be filled on regular basis.
He said the State Government had appointed 21,780 persons on contract basis for a period of over one-and-a-half years from January 1, 2003 to July 15, 2004. The number of contract employees would come down to 13,904 by the end of September, by which time the services of 7,876 Multi Purpose Extension Officers will expire.
