Load shedding due to short supply: APTransco

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 23

The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco) has indicated that it was forced to resort to load shedding, as there was a shortage of 874 MW in thermal power generation by the State and Central power stations.

In a press release here on Friday, APTransco said that a 500 MW unit of the Simhadri Thermal Power Station at Viskhapatnam had tripped due to leakage of boiler tube. This is expected to be back in service only on Saturday. This apart, Madras Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam (AP share 14 MW) and a 500 MW unit of Ramagundam Thermal Power Station (AP share 150 MW) were under maintenance works. A 210 MW unit of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station had also been taken out of service for attending to emergency works resulting in shortage of 874 MW of power. There was no hydel power generation in the State due to low level of water in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs. APTransco stated it was forced to manage the demand-supply gap by regulating the demand. It said efforts were being made to ensure assured hours of power.
