Chennai , July 21

THE Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation Ltd will invest Rs 100 crore to ramp up capacity.

It also plans to export milk powder, according to Mr B.K. Prasad, Special Officer and Managing Director, TCMPF.

The Federation, which sells its products under the brand name `Aavin', plans to set up a powder plant and also increase the processing capacities of its plants.

The new powder plant will have a capacity to process 5 lakh litres of milk per day to produce 50 tonnes of milk powder.

Mr Prasad said the federation was augmenting the processing capacity from 20.5 lakh litres (lt) per annum to 25 lt a year.

This would eventually be increased to 30 lt a year in a span of five years.

He said the federation plans to export milk powder to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai.

The Centre had provided export licence to two of its plants at Salem and Erode, each with a production capacity of 15,000 tonnes per annum, he added.

The federation hoped to land an export order of 2,000-2,500 tonnes per annum.

He said the Federation had become proactive in marketing and was tying up with various FMCG companies to market its `Aavin' brand.

Earlier it had tied-up with GlaxoSmithKline for supplying skimmed milk for manufacturing "Horlicks' biscuits and with Britannia for the supply of 70 tonnes of butter for biscuits.
